I have a flood! What do I do?

- Look over your washing machine hoses frequently - replace if suspect.
- Ensure you have your drains and outlets inspected by a professional plumber regularly - at least every five years.
- Carefully inspect your roof annually for any signs of trouble - early Spring is a good time
Water Damage Hazards to Avoid:
- Most ordinary household vacuum cleaner are not designed to remove water. It can be dangerous.
- Wet carpet or floors can conduct electricity - don't use electrical appliances while standing on them.
- Ensure all the electricity is turned off before entering rooms where there is standing water; it could carry a shock.
What to Do Before Our Water Damage Experts Arrive
- If you've had a plumbing emergency, turn off the water. If your pipes have burst or are frozen, turn it off at the street as well as inside the house.
- As a first step, turn off all power to (circuit breakers) to the affected room and areas.
- Keep all electrical equipment off. Don't turn on TVs, computers or other appliances. Unplug all cords and move them up of the carpet.
- Turn on air conditioning for faster drying if its warm outside. Use the dehumidify setting if possible.
- Get your furniture up off the carpet - up on wooden blocks or at least slip aluminum foil between the legs and carpet. This keeps the wood from staining the carpet and the carpet from staining the wood.

- Pick up anything you can. Move any furniture possible to a dry area. Leave as little as possible on the floor of wet areas.
- Wipe down wooden furniture of all moisture.
- Remove wet upholstered cushions. Prop them up to enable air to circulate on all sides.
- Pin up draperies. You can use coat hangers to suspend them from the curtain rods.
- Remove colored area rugs from wet carpeting. Hang them up or send them to a professional cleaner.
